Všudybylka
Silver medals and a gold coin
Lightweight steam locomotives designed for express and passenger trains on shorter routes were introduced in 1917 as the KkStB Class 629, designed by Johann Rihosek based on the proven designs of Karl Gölsdorf. Thanks to their reliability, they soon became very successful with the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) as well, which manufactured them at the Škoda Works starting in 1920 and continued to modernize them.
Locomotive 354.1178 served on ČSD lines until 1977. After years of neglect, it is currently undergoing final repairs in Zvolen and preparing to return to service. It earned the nickname “Všudybylka” thanks to its popularity and widespread use across the entire railway network—from the Šumava Mountains to the Tatra Mountains.
